Newmarket, Ontario

Newmarket Network

A neighbourhood network for local services, local sensors, and later a way to send a message when the internet is down.

You keep your own internet. This never carries your home connection for someone else.

Neighbours in Newmarket, keeping this up for each other.

What is here

Search

Find the pages neighbours have put on the network.

The Square

The neighbourhood board. Notices, events, talk about town.

When it is down

Not yet. That is where this is going: a line that still works when the rest of the internet does not.

How you get on

A neighbour invites you. That is the whole gate.

  1. Ask someone already on

A person you know in town. They have to let you in.

  2. Get a free app called Tailscale

    Phone or computer. Download Tailscale.

  3. Give it this address

That is how the app finds us, not the usual Tailscale login.

  4. They finish adding you

Once they do, you are on.

Then open hub.newmarket.network.

On a phone

Open Tailscale. Tap the account icon, then Log in. Open the menu in the top right. Choose the custom server option, and paste the address.

On a computer

Paste this in a terminal:

tailscale login --login-server https://login.newmarket.network

What this is not

Not the Town of Newmarket. Not a company. Not 911. In an emergency, call 911.

No ads. No trackers. The rest of the network opens only after you are on.
